Where should I spend my money for internet marketing, Facebook or Adwords?
This is a common question for businesses and universities. If you are a business that targets people above the age of twenty five, Facebook is probably not the place for you YET. I emphasize 'yet' because Facebook's demographic is still college age men and women, a trend that is currently changing since Facebook opened it gates to everyone.
If you are a university, trade school, or college this is a great place for you to spend your internet marketing budget. Facebook allows you to target extremely specific demographics as well as placing your advertisement on facebook pages that relate to your ad. The downside is that when people are going on facebook they are not looking for some service or product. They are going their to interact with their friends.
Adwords are still the overwhelming favorite. Unlike Facebook, people go to Google to receive information not interact with friends. The demographics you are able to target is slightly more limited, however, Google provides you with a wealth of information and recommendations. The downside is that there is tremendous competition. As a university enrollment consultant for small schools, sometimes I must tell my client that they cannot compete against giant schools like University of Phoenix for terms like 'online degree'. On facebook, however, they can compete with the giants.

Tags: seo | website optimization You have a new site, but the SEO does not seem to be working yet there could be a few issues. The first issue could simply be time. Google takes about three months to really pick up on your site and start registering it for keyword relevancy. The second most common issue with SEO is content. You may have tagged your whole site correctly with Title tags, Meta Descriptions, etc. but you will not register for those keywords if your content does not match. If you do not know how to optimize your content, hire a SEO consultant or SEO copywriter to do it for you. Now make sure you get links to your website. Submit your website to local business directories like Yellowpages.com and social media sites like Facebook. Finally, remember to register your website with Google and submit a new sitemap every month.

Ecommerce Website Mistakes

Tags: Ecommerce | seo | Social Networking You have a product, now you want to sell it. The first question you should ask yourself is 'Do I really need an ecommerce website design?'. Many businesses want them, bu they do not really need them. Any website design company will tell you that an ecommerce site is significantly more expensive to build, oftentimes twice the price of a normal website. The reason is complexity. Ecommerce websites are much more complex because of all the products that need to be inventoried, not too mention the coding for the site. If you do not absolutely need an ecommerce website, save money and don't do it.
Another mistake is thinking that sales are simply going to come to you. The average time it takes for an ecommerce website to begin making a profit is five years. You may have a great product and website, but if no one knows about it how can you make sales:
1. You need to hit the bricks. Let everyone in your community know about your product. Pass out brochures, business cards, fliers, etc. 2. Register on social networking sites like Facebook and Myspace; this will help your website and your product gain more visibility and help with SEO 3. Experiment with website design; little design changes to your site can make all the difference in converting visitors into sales. 4. Search engine optimize your site. A number of my St. Louis and Springfield customers wanted a site, but not SEO. Their websites look great, but they were getting no visitors because they wrote their own content without knowing the rules of SEO. Now they have hired me to optimize their site, but it is more difficult to perform SEO after the website has been completed rather during the website design process.

Tags: seo | website consulting | website traffic An issue that small businesses in St. Louis, Springfield, and all around the country are facing is driving traffic to their new site, even after SEO. Try going back to the basics. SEO will only get you so far initially, its time to hit the bricks. Drive around your area leaving business cards, brochures, and those flyers where people can tear off contact information in your local Starbucks, churches, libraries, colleges, etc. Try to meet people who would be interested in your products or services. Use websites like Elance.com to find potential customers. Network with Facebook, LinkedIn, friends, and family. SEO takes time, so do not expect thousands of visitors the first month. Try to drive traffic the old fashion way.

Tags: seo | seo consultant | web consulting Search engine optimization consultants are a dime a dozen nowadays and they all make these elaborate claims about driving up your website traffic. But no one cares if their site gets one hundred thousand visitors a month, if they are not quality leads. Not too mention that no seo consultant can get your site dramatic results immediately, unless their using black hat tactics like spamming which hurts your site in the long run.
The fact is seo takes months and months, search engines take time to index your site. A truly high quality seo expert will be honest with you and explain that it takes time. The question that any consultant should ask and you ahould be asking yourself is: what are your needs? If you need a website purely for informational purposes than seo is probably not necessary. If you are looking to use your website as a sales tool or you are in a highly competitive industry in which you need to differentiate yourself than search engine optimization is crucial and should begin immediately.
Examples of businesses that need to be doing seo yesterday are universities, real estate agents, travel agents, etc. These are businesses people are going to contact based on searches they performed on the internet. You may think universities is surprising; however, the boom of online classes and degrees has made search engine optimization a crucial part of any universities marketing strategy.
